Nerea Ubieto
(Zaragoza, 1984. Vive y trabaja en Madrid)
Nerea Ubieto is an independent curator, cultural manager and art critic for ABC Cultural. She holds a BA in Art History from the University of Zaragoza and an MA in Art Market and Appraisal. Specialised in contemporary photography and visual culture, her practice combines exhibition-making, research, teaching and art criticism. Her multidisciplinary projects explore a wide range of interests, with a particular focus on philosophical issues related to dissident identities, feminism, esoteric knowledge and spirituality. Throughout her career, she has developed projects for both public and private institutions, collaborating with museums, art centres, galleries, festivals and cultural organisations in Spain and internationally. She is currently touring two international group exhibitions: Portales a lo desconocido (Gateways to the Unknown), organised by the Instituto Cervantes, and El ojo desarmado (The Disarmed Eye), produced by AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation).

Contemporary Photography
Contemporary photography is one of the central areas of Nerea Ubieto's curatorial research and practice. For more than a decade, she has developed a sustained career in the field, combining exhibition-making, research, teaching, portfolio reviews and participation in specialist juries. In 2027, she serves as a member of the jury for Spain's National Photography Award, one of the country's highest institutional distinctions in the field. She was also a member of the Platform for the National Centre for Photography and Image, participating in the public presentation of its manifesto at Madrid's Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. She has collaborated with leading photography festivals and institutions including PhotoEspaña, The Finnish Museum of Photography, Begira Photo, Revela'T and Art Photo Barcelona, and has taught at EFTI and the PhotoEspaña Master's Programme. As curator of the Nexofoto International Photography Award, she promoted emerging Ibero-American photographers while contributing to the visibility of both established and emerging voices in contemporary photography.
Her career began at Blanca Berlín Gallery, specialising in photography, and as exhibition coordinator alongside curator Alejandro Castellote. She has since curated photography projects for institutions including Fundación Telefónica within the framework of PhotoEspaña, where she presented Soft Borders, a programme exploring expanded photographic practices. Among her most significant exhibitions are Algo, nada, siempre by Vari Caramés at Sala Canal de Isabel II (Madrid) and Afectos fugaces by Jesús Madriñán at La Térmica (Málaga), alongside projects with artists including Paula Anta, Antonio Guerra, Mar Sáenz, Rocío Bueno and Pachi Santiago. She also collaborated professionally with Spain's National Photography Award recipient Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, further strengthening her expertise in the Spanish and international photography landscape.
